August 18 - Hamburg, Germany-headquartered Hapag-Lloyd has introduced its ECX service, consolidating the carrier's services from northern Europe to the east coast of South America.

The ECX service is planned to commence on September 27, originating in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Hapag-Lloyd says the weekly service will cover the major markets in northern Europe and the east coast of South America. It will operate four vessels, each with a capacity of approximately 9,000 teu and 1,325 reefer plugs.

The port rotation of the service will include London Gateway, UK; the German ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven; Antwerp, Belgium; Le Havre, France; Sines, Portugal; Tangier, Morocco; the Brazilian ports of Pecem, Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, Santos, Paranagua, Navegantes and Rio Grande; Montevideo, Uruguay; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
