Innovation overhauled

DEME’s offshore installation vessel Innovation has undergone a major refit at Damen’s Verolme shipyard in Rotterdam.

Innovation has been a common feature of the offshore wind energy industry, having been mobilised to install foundations at projects across Europe.

The most significant aspect of the refit was the modification and re-installation of Innovation’s aft legs, which were extended and reinforced. Each leg measures 89 m in length.

The vessel’s jacking motors were also overhauled. 48 gearboxes were removed, modified and re-installed.

Innovation has since set sail to the SeaMade project in the Belgian North Sea to install 58 foundations.
