October 23 - GAC Sri Lanka has completed the movement of the offshore drilling rig, Hercules Triumph, from the Sri Lankan port of Trincomalee to Kakinada, India.

GAC Sri Lanka, a subsidiary of the GAC Group, chartered three anchor-handling tugs - SCI URJA, SCI Ahimsa and Mahaweli - to off-load the Hercules Triumph from a heavy lift vessel at Trincomalee.

GAC also provided a range of port services, using its own fleet of supply boats for transfer of crew and other personnel to and from the rig, as well as supplying provisions, fresh water and bunker fuels to the rig and anchor-handling tugs.

After four days of servicing at the port, two of GAC's tugs - the SCI URJA and SCI Ahimsa - towed the drilling rig over 700 miles to Kakinada, a journey which took a total of eight days.

The rig, which is owned by the US company, Hercules Offshore, is now anchored at Kakinada ready to start drilling operations for CAIRN energy at the RAVVA offshore oilfield.

"This is another milestone in rig operations in Sri Lanka," says director and ceo of GAC Sri Lanka, Preethilal Fernando.
