May 14 - Lifting and specialised transport company Gertzen has used two Liebherr mobile cranes to install the funnel casing and viewing gondola on the cruise ship, Anthem of Seas, at Germany's Papenburger Meyer shipyard.

Gertzen used one Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 mobile crane from its own fleet and hired another from Thömen for this job.

Due to the sheer size of the huge cruise vessel, the installation of funnel casings had to take place out outside of the covered shipbuilding dock.

Once the 350 m long liner vessel had been towed outside, the two Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 cranes were used to lift the 18 m high by 26 m long funnel casing onto the ship. With a radius of 34 m, the 42-tonne casing was placed over the funnel from ahook height of 74 m.

The 'North Star' viewing gondola, which weighed in at 110 tonnes, was then lifted by the two cranes to a height of 90 m above sea level, before being positioned onboard. The Gertzen mobile crane had to be fitted with telescopic guying in order to increase its load capacity.
