Hawaii-headquartered Matson’s newest Kanaloa-class con-ro vessel is preparing to embark on its maiden voyage on January 9.

The vessel, christened Lurline at the General Dynamics NASSCO Shipyard in San Diego during 2019, is the first of two sisterships being built at the yard for Matson. After departing Oakland the ship will arrive in Honolulu on January 15.

The 3,500 teu vessel measures 265 m long, 34.7 m wide, and has a draught of 11.6 m. The Kanaloa-class vessels will have an enclosed garage with room for approximately 500 vehicles, plus ample space for rolling stock and breakbulk cargo.

Lurline is now Matson's largest ship and, according to Matson, is the largest con-ro vessel ever constructed in the USA.
