Manitoulin Global Forwarding acquires Can-Tran

June 14 - Canada, Leduc-based freight-forwarding company Can-Tran International Inc has been acquired by Manitoulin Global Forwarding.

No terms were disclosed in the announcement, but all Can-Tran employees will remain with the company, the Mississauga-based Manitoulin said.

After it was founded in 1985, Can-Tran provided freight-forwarding, customs brokerage, ground transportation, distribution and warehousing services to Alberta customers. With the majority of its customers in the oil and gas industry, Can-Tran has gained significant expertise in complex project moves, especially those involving drill rigs. All Can-Tran employees will remain with the company.

Manitoulin president Dwayne Hihn said acquiring Can-Tran allows it to expand its energy-industry profile.

"It specialises in the oil and gas industry, a growth sector we already service and which we intend to build on in future years," he said.

Barry Young, former Can-Tran president, said customers will be able to access services offered by Manitoulin.

It¹s the second western Canadian business acquired by Manitoulin in two months. It purchased freight-forwarding company, Beler International Inc of Regina, in May.
