September 1 - International Car Operators n.v. and Rhenus Holding Belgium n.v. have established a joint venture company to target the breakbulk and project market.

Zeebrugge Breakbulk Terminal will occupy the deep and short-sea quays located at the Noordelijk Insteekdok (Northern Inlet Dock) in the Port of Zeebrugge.

By focussing on the forest products, steel, agricultural and general cargo markets, the ZBT management team hopes to "put Zeebrugge back on the map as a conventional breakbulk seaport".

Marc Adriansens, managing director of ICO, said: "Today's announcement marks a key milestone in our plans as a terminal operator to realise the full potential of the Port of Zeebrugge.

"We look forward to working with our Rhenus partners through ZBT expanding the breakbulk tonnage being handled by Zeebrugge."

Joachim Coens, Port of Zeebrugge CEO, said the joint venture would broaden the capabilities of the port.
