Potteries picks a wafer

August 8 - UK-based Potteries Heavy Haulage has taken delivery of a Goldhofer STZ-VP 2 wafer deck low loader.

The STZ-VP 2 features a low deadweight and a short bogie, says Goldhofer, as well as offering the flexibility to handle the Potteries' wide-ranging operational requirements.

"Apart from the usual cargoes like pressure vessels, generator sets, structural components and machines, we also transport industrial plant. In addition, our transport portfolio includes boats and construction machines such as excavators and cranes," says Rob Powell, operations manager at Potteries Heavy Haulage.

With a fifth-wheel load of 23 tons (20.8 tonnes), the STZ-VP 2 features a 0.22 m deep extendable low profile deck with outer beams and inserting floor for use as a flatbed or vessel deck.

The trailer features additional coupling points to take more beams and increase the overall lower deck length, as well as a deep and wide excavator/vessel recess in the rear bogie. The hydraulic gooseneck is fabricated with outer beams, so when transporting boats, for example, the bow can be positioned further forward.

Goldhofer's two-axle pendular axle bogie has a loading height of 1.1 m.
