The parties have worked together since 1994, combining their strengths in heavy-duty railfreight. “Cooperation with ITB is characterised by mutual trust, professionalism and a shared understanding of quality. This reliability is the basis for us to be able to successfully implement complex projects in the future as well,” said Mario Potzinger, RCG key account manager special transport.

When the joint journey began in the mid-1990s, the volumes were a fraction of what is seen today. “The 449-tonne transformer for the Lienz substation in East Tyrol remains an absolute highlight during this time — a logistical masterpiece of planning, equipment and seamless interface work,” said Thomas Grabuschnigg, ITB division manager.

He added that the energy transition and the resulting transmission network expansion is increasing the need for heavy and oversize cargo transport on the rails. “Our product segment of exceptional shipments meets these requirements precisely — together with RCG, we are well prepared for this.”

HLPFI reported last week that Felbermayr is testing the use of alternative fuels, including hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), in parts of its fleet in an effort to reduce greenhouse gases.
