Germany-headquartered SAL Heavy Lift is set to expand its fleet with the addition of six D-type vessels.
SAL Heavy Lift will assume full ownership of five out of the six D-type vessels, with the sixth ship – Industrial Diamond – to be operated under a long-term charter agreement.
Measuring 120 m in length, the D-type vessels have a specialised design allowing them to handle heavy, oversized and sensitive project cargo – especially in ports with limited draught or insufficient infrastructure, said SAL. The vessels are equipped with two 250-tonne cranes, allowing for combined lifts of up to 500 tonnes.
SAL has been working on the delivery of these D-type vessels for around two years, and all six vessels are due to be commissioned between July 2025 and October 2025.
Last month, HLPFI reported that SAL had launched its fourth Orca heavy lift vessel, Carlotta.
