SAL Heavy Lift’s fourth Orca heavy lift vessel, Carlotta, has been launched at the Weihai shipyard in China.
“With one more vessel to go, the Orca fleet is taking shape – combining performance, flexibility, and efficiency like never before,” said SAL Heavy Lift.
Measuring 149.9 m x 27.2 m, the Germany-headquartered shipping line will add five Orca-class vessels to its fleet in total. The first vessel in the series, Elise, was launched in August 2024 and was followed by Frida and Patricia in December 2024.
SAL placed the order for up to six 14,600 dwt multipurpose heavy lift vessels with China’s Wuhu Shipyard back in 2022 – four newbuildings plus two options. It exercised an option for a fifth Orca-class newbuild the following year.
“As Carlotta joins her sister vessels, we move closer to realising our vision of a smarter, greener future in maritime transport,” added SAL Heavy Lift, referencing the newbuilding’s methanol-ready design, fully electric cranes and shore power capabilities.
