SCS in turbine lifting challenge

May 8 - SCS Heavy Lifts & Transport has arranged the transport, rigging and positioning of a turbine and generator set for Stadtwerke Neum

The 65-tonne turbine frame, which had the dimensions 13 m x 6.5 m x 2 m, was first transported by road from its factory in Süssen to Mannheim port before being shipped via inland waterway to Lübeck, where it was stored temporarily and finally transported to Neumünster on a truck.

A 600-tonne main crane and a 140-tonne tail crane were put in place to unload and lift the frame into the building and position it on two heavy beams. Guided skates were installed on top of the beams enabling the frame to be manoeuvred from a vertical to horizontal position.

A lifting gantry was then installed on top of the frame, before the turbine, generator and other equipment was lifted into the building.
