Ørsted will utilise a 300,000 sq m area of Steel River Quay – located on the south bank of the River Tees in the UK – to support the construction of the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm.
The area will be used to collect and store key components, such as monopile foundations and secondary steel before they are loaded onto offshore wind installation vessels.
Part of the Teesworks site, Steel River Quay has been specially designed for offshore wind industry standards and is located in close proximity to Hornsea 3. It is home to two of the wind farm’s partners: secondary steel supplier Severfield and monopile supplier SeAH.
Cadeler will deploy its installation vessels from Steel River Quay, while Mammoet will undertake the heavy lifting operations at the site.
Ally Cameron, managing director at Steel River Quay, said: “This is a landmark moment for Steel River Quay and the wider Teesworks site. To welcome Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 project as our first large-scale offshore wind base is a huge vote of confidence in the infrastructure, location and capability we’ve built here.”
