Swire links China to Pacific

December 17 - Effective January 1, 2016, Swire Shipping is enhancing its Bali Hai service from North Asia to the South Pacific.

Two 22,000 dwt Challenger Class vessels, which are capable of carrying containerised, breakbulk and project cargo, will be deployed on the North Asia - Pacific service.

Jeremy Sutton, general manager for liner trades at Swire Shipping, explained: "The Pacific Rim is a key market for Swire Shipping. With the additional port calls, we are now the only multipurpose liner operator connecting China to the South Pacific. We will be boosting our services by increasing our carrying capacity for both breakbulk and containerised cargo."

The enhanced port rotation will be as follows: Shimizu (Japan), Qingdao (China), Busan (South Korea), Yokohama (Japan), Majuro (Marshall Islands), Tarawa (Kiribati), Pago Pago (American Samoa), Apia (Samoa), Nuku'alofa (Tonga), Suva (Fiji), Lautoka (Fiji), Santo (Vanuatu), Honiara (Solomon Islands), Tarawa (Kiribati), Majuro (Marshall Islands) and Shimizu (Japan).

To complement the service, Swire said that it will be increasing the carrying capacity on these routes to cater for breakbulk, project and containerised cargo.
