Symphony Performer launched

October 14 - The long-range DP2 offshore supply vessel Symphony Performer was launched today (October 14) in Leer, Germany.

Symphony Performer is the first of two Ecobox DP2 vessels that will be delivered to Symphony Shipping. The ship has an overall length of 124.7 m, an 18 m breadth, and a maximum draught of 9.84 m.

The ships are being built at the Ferus Smit Shipyard in Leer. Both will be used on cargo supply runs for offshore platforms, assisting pipe and cable laying operations.

At 10,500 dwt, the ships are three to four times larger than platform supply vessels that traditionally undertake this type of work. Symphony Shipping said this would allow larger quantities of cargo to be transported while better serving deepwater installations.

The ship is equipped with a Kongsberg DP2 system - something that enables larger cargoes to be handled with limited risk of damage, explained Symphony Shipping.

Symphony Performer is scheduled to enter commercial service in December 2016. The second vessel in the order, Symphony Provider, will join the fleet during April 2017.
