July 1 - Volga-Dnepr Airlines has transported two power generators to Port Harcourt, Nigeria, using its new wing-lift system, which aims to reduce the loading time for large containers to less than 30 minutes.
On behalf of Geodis Industrial Projects UK, Volga-Dnepr delivered a 19-tonne gas-powered generator and 17.6-tonne diesel generator from Châlons Vatry Airport in France to Nigeria on board one of its IL-76TD-90VD freighters.
Each generator was packed into a container, measuring 9.2 m x 2.6 m x 2.9 m.
Volga-Dnepr invested in the bespoke wing-lift system to reduce the usual four-hour loading time for containers onto its aircraft.
The system involves attaching wheels to each corner of the containers, enabling the aircraft's loading systems to winch the container into the cargo hold safely and within a fraction of the previous handling timescale, claims Volga-Dnepr.
