October 25 - Volga-Dnepr Airlines has provided KOG Transport, the international project freight forwarder, with a comprehensive logistics service for the delivery of a 35 tonne rotor to a thermal electric power plant in Accra, Ghana.

The rotor needed to be delivered urgently from East Midlands airport in the UK to Ghana and its weight and 8 m length meant the shipment required all of Volga-Dnepr's expertise to reach its destination on time.

Volga-Dnepr Airlines designed and manufactured an ultra-light cradle to successfully load the rotor into the cargo cabin of one of its Ilyushin IL-76TD-90VD freighters. The customer also took advantage of Volga-Dnepr's complete package of engineering and logistics services, including delivery of cargo to the airport, terminal handling, security clearance, and the supply of loading/unloading equipment.

According to Georgy Sokolov, regional sales manager at Volga-Dnepr UK, the airline's vast experience of solving such complex air logistics challenges ensured the quick delivery required was successfully achieved. "Our unique capabilities allow us to fulfill complex tasks and perform the total door-to-door cargo delivery, which helps our customers meet often tight delivery schedules as on this occasion to Ghana."

The cargo was destined for the Takoradi Power Station, a thermal power station at Aboadze, 17 kilometres east of Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana.
