The Western Australian 2024-2025 state budget will include AUD373 million (USD246.5 million) in funding for projects at its ports.

WA ports to get funding boost

The investment will enable “significant port infrastructure upgrades” to accommodate growth in trade as well as expand capacity for exports and imports. Additional funding will be allocated to a range of maintenance projects.

New projects to be delivered with funding in the 2024-25 state budget include AUD117 million (USD77.3 million) for major rebuilding and upgrades of berths and mooring equipment at Fremantle, Kwinana and Esperance.

AUD101 million (USD66.8 million) has been earmarked for a major cargo wharf project at the port of Dampier, while Port Hedland will receive USD17 million (USD11.2 million) for essential roadworks at Utah Point.

Other investments include AUD84 million (USD55.5 million) for sustaining capital works across all ports, as well as funding for recladding bulk export sheds at Geraldton and Bunbury; a seafarer’s centre at Port Hedland; heritage renovation of historic Albany port buildings; infrastructure to support first point of entry designation for Broome Port; and planning for proposed new facilities in Esperance and Albany.
