April 12 - In Florida, Jaxport's new Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) at Dames Point, ahead of its official opening later this year, will be used to support a high-level military training exercise.

Jaxport is partnering with numerous U.S. Army units, including the Jaxport-based 832nd Transportation Battalion, for exercises aimed at expediting the movement of ocean-going military cargo, rehearsing the capabilities of personnel as well as the new terminal.

The exercise will see uniformed Army personnel handle around 800 pieces of cargo, including vehicles, containers and equipment, which will be transferred from the ICTF to a nearby military ship. State-of-the-art technology allows cargo to be moved directly between ships and trains, expediting the handling process, states Jaxport.

Construction of the USD30 million ICTF was funded through state and federal grants; the facility is served by CSX rail lines.
