January 11 - Canaveral Port Authority commissioners have selected current president and ceo of Hapag-Lloyd USA, Captain John W. Murray, to serve as the next ceo of Port Canaveral.

Murray will replace current Port Canaveral ceo John E. Walsh, who will step down from his role on January 21, 2016. HLPFI reported on his decision to leave the port in September 2015.

The port hopes to have negotiated a contract with Murray by January 21, but if an agreement has not been reached by then, Port Canaveral cfo Rodger Rees will step into the ceo role in the interim.

"We believe our port and our community will be well served having Captain Murray at the helm," said port commission chairman Jerry Allender. "He brings strong business experience and leadership skills that will help the Port navigate to our next level."
