Blue Water Shipping is expanding its premises at the south harbour in Esbjerg, entering into an agreement with the port to take over a 200,000 sq m area that will be incorporated into its wind turbine handling operations.
The first 20,000 sq m plot is expected to be taken over in November 2025, while the rest of the area will be ready in the second quarter of 2026.
“The new area is a unique chance for us to meet the growing demand from the wind industry,” said Per Jensen, director port service at Blue Water Shipping. “The port of Esbjerg plays a key role in the development of offshore wind in the North Sea, and the expansion makes sure we can deliver the facilities and capacity our customers want.”
The area has been raised to an elevation of 7 m, which Blue Water said means it is future-proofed against high tides for the next 100 years. It added that it will play an important role in the company’s 2030 strategy, in which investments in port services and wind logistics are key growth areas.
The expansion comes at a time when the wind industry is experiencing strong growth, driven by the green transition and major investments in North Sea wind farms. “It is crucial that we take the steps now to ensure our customers have access to the right facilities in the future. With this area, we are not only strengthening Blue Water’s own position, but we are also helping the port of Esbjerg maintain its role as Europe’s most important logistics hub for offshore wind,” added Jensen.
In Esbjerg, Blue Water already operates a 75,000 sq m area at its onshore wind turbine terminal and a 25,000 sq m area with Esbjerg Tubular Service. The company will also soon take over the remaining areas in connection with the upcoming 160,000 sq m ro-ro terminal, which handles regular traffic to the UK, Belgium and Spain.
Meanwhile, the company has officially opened its new office at the port of Aarhus.
