Mozambique’s president Daniel Francisco Chapo and TotalEnergies’ ceo Patrick Pouyanné are expected to announce the ‘relaunch’ of the Mozambique LNG project on January 29.
TotalEnergies declared force majeure at the project in April 2021 due to insurgent activities destabilising the region. The declaration was lifted in October 2025; the cost of the project was reported to have risen by more than USD4.5 billion while activities were stalled.
Mozambique LNG, originally costed at USD20 billion, will have an annual production capacity of 13 million tonnes of LNG.
