Renewable energy firm MeyGen turned to Aberdeen Web’s round slings to help load a 210-tonne tidal turbine at a tidal energy project in Scotland, the world’s largest planned tidal stream array.
With strong currents, narrow tidal windows, and an emphasis on pinpoint accuracy, deploying tidal turbines throw up a multitude of potential problems. However, MeyGen opted for Aberdeen Web’s polyester round slings as they are strong yet lightweight, easy to handle on deck, and gentle on sensitive turbine surfaces. They are also resistant to water and abrasive, offering a reliable solution in harsh offshore conditions.
During the lift at the Scottish tidal energy facility, the turbine’s delicate surfaces were protected throughout. Aberdeen Web’s slings have a 7:1 safety factor, are compliant with key sector standards, and are available in capacities ranging from 0.5-150 tonnes.
“Our round slings are trusted across the renewables sector,” commented Aberdeen Web managing director Richard Smart, who added that, “we combine over 30 years of manufacturing expertise to deliver lifting solutions that meet the highest standards of safety and reliability.”
Back in April 2025, Aberdeen Web was acquired by pewag.
