Drydocks World has launched its new 5,000-tonne floating crane, named Alnokhada. The primary fabrication phase has been completed, with delivery slated for Q2 2026.

Constructed by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) Offshore, the crane barge is now afloat. The project has entered outfitting phase which includes system installation and testing, ahead of commissioning – scheduled for Q1 2026.
Alnokhada spans 138.5 m in length, has a 52 m beam and a 5.8 m draft. With a lifting system which combines a 5,000-tonne main hook with a 600-tonne auxiliary hook reaching 180 m, the crane – once operational – will be used for complex offshore, industrial and energy projects, offering greater speed and enhanced safety.
In July 2025, Drydocks World launched a competition to name the floating crane. Having received more than 3,000 submissions, the winning name was entered by Kim Alfonso, a certified lifting equipment engineer from the Philippines, who had previously worked for Drydocks World. The name is derived from the Gulf Arabic word ‘Al Nokhada’, meaning the dhow boat captain, who would lead often dangerous pearl diving expeditions, and pays homage to Dubai’s maritime heritage.
“Alnokhada represents a major step in the long-term development of our yard and the future of heavy-lift capability in the region,” said Capt. Rado Antolovic, ceo, Drydocks World. “Beyond its engineering significance, the crane is central to our investment strategy, strengthening our capacity to deliver the next generation of offshore vessels and industrial mega projects, both offshore and onshore.”
