Germany-based manufacturer Greiner has delivered a bespoke heavy-duty trailer to Airbus for transporting engine segments.
The Sefiro heavy-duty trailer, measuring 16.5 m x 3. 5 m, will be used to transport different engine components within the Airbus Finkenwerder facility. The variant has electronic-hydraulic, multi-way steering across all its wheels, as well as extensive steering programmes. Six lithium-ion battery blocks allow for all-electric operations.
Moreover, said Greiner, the unit is operated via a main radio remote control. A second operator can use an additional control panel to control more of the numerous features concurrently. It also benefits from an additional autonomous driving program, which uses LIDAR sensors and reflectors, to navigate the vehicle to the desired position with millimetre precision.
Greiner said that further orders from Airbus are in production at its facilities and should be delivered in the coming months.
