November 13 - The container/ro-ro (con-ro) vessel Jolly Titanio, which was built by the Korean STX Offshore & Shipbuilding shipyard, has been delivered to Ignazio Messina.

The new Italian-flagged vessel is starting its maiden voyage to Europe with ro-ro cargo and is expected to start operating within Messina's regular liner services between Mediterranean ports, the Red Sea and Middle Eastern destinations at the beginning of January 2015.

This newbuild is the first in a series of four con-ro vessels that the Korean shipyard is scheduled to deliver by mid 2015. The delivery of Jolly Titanio, and its three sisterships, Jolly Cobalto, Jolly Vanadio and Jolly Palladio, is part of the second phase of the Genoa based shipping company's multimillion-dollar development plan.

Another four vessels have already been built by another Korean shipbuilder - Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering - and started operating within Messina Line's service at the beginning of 2012.

Jolly Titanio is 240 m long x 37.5 m wide, with a 3,900 teu capacity and 6,350 m of ro-ro cargo capacity. The vessel is equipped with a high-tech anti pollution system, and has obtained the Greenplus certification from the Italian Register, Rina.

The newbuild has a draft of 11.5 m and a ramp designed to allow the loading of heavy lift cargo.
