November 18 - Global manufacturer of heavy lift material handling equipment Terex Cranes has launched a new service to allow clients to access product and service information worldwide.

The manufacturer is integrating the use of Quick Response codes (QR codes) into its latest printed communication to customers and distributors.

First introduced in 1994 for the tracking of parts in the automobile industry, the QR code is an evolution of the product bar code that enables customers to instantly learn more about a business and its products directly from their mobile phone.

Readable by most mobile or smart phones (iPhoneBlackberry, among others), with an existing or downloadable application, users of mobile phones can now scan printed QR codes with their phone's camera to access business or product specific information directly from any location in many countries.

"The introduction of QR codes fits well with our approach to customer responsiveness," says Sven Ebinger, director marketing, global communication and brand management, Terex Cranes. "The idea is to enable our customers and distributors to go directly to what interests them the most rapidly."
