August 10 - A 370-tonne gas turbine, manufactured at GE's factory in Belfort, has been handled by Rhine Europe Terminals (RET) in Strasbourg.

The oversize unit was first transported by road from Belfort to Strasbourg, which involved utilising two 14-axle trailers, four prime movers and a bespoke girder bridge.

On arrival in Strasbourg, the turbine was loaded onto a barge and delivered to the Port of Antwerp by Rhenus Logistics Alsace, for final shipment to Pakistan.

Another similar cargo is expected to arrive at Strasbourg South Terminal, which is operated by RET, at the beginning of September.

Rhine Europe Terminals is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Port of Strasbourg, which operates and maintains the port's container and heavy lift handling equipment at its North and South terminals.

As well as the Strasbourg South Terminal, which is equipped with a 460-tonne gantry crane, RET also operates the Port of Lauterbourg in Strasbourg, which features a ro-ro ramp and a 200-tonne capacity gantry crane. RET says that over 250 heavy lift cargoes were handled at Strasbourg in 2015.
