BigLift busy for Dangote

Since November 2018, BigLift has been busy transporting cargoes for Dangote Oil Refining Company’s (DORC) project in Lagos, Nigeria.

The first cargo was delivered to the Lekki jetty, which was constructed to receive the refinery components, on November 13, 2018. Some of the first components delivered included eight columns, weighing up to 550 tonnes each, from Mangalore, India.

The components, manufactured by Phills Engineering, were delivered on BigLift’s Happy Dragon. Happy Star arrived at the Lekki jetty shortly after to deliver two 1,500-tonne ATB reactors, which were loaded in Porto Marghera, Italy.

Other cargoes included 220-tonne engines and an alternator from Bremerhaven and Livorno, respectively, on board the vessel Tramper; a 696-tonne reactor and 10,000 cu m of cargo from India, manufactured by Godrej & Boyce, was shipped aboard Happy Sky.

In February 2019, Happy Dragon delivered a 300-tonne crew boat from Tanjung Manis, Malaysia, as well as an air preheater stack and duct from Mundra, India.

BigLift also called upon the new vessels added to Spliethoff’s fleet for the huge project. Pijlgracht loaded various cargoes in Krishnapatnam, Nhava Sheva and Mundra, including four heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) modules.

Its sistership, Paleisgracht, delivered cargo from Mangalore, Mumbai and Mundra, including four more HRSG modules; Parkgracht loaded components in the Mediterranean ports of Bari, Vibo Valentia, Marina di Carrara and Livorno; and Poolgracht handled the deliver of five columns, including a 822-tonne splitter column, from Shanghai, China.
