February 6 - Danish-owned global transport and logistics company Blue Water Shipping (BWS) has been selected by Lamprell Energy to transport a LeTourneau S116E jack-up rig from the UAE to Russia.

The dismantled jack-up rig will be shipped in four separate consignments from Lamprell's manufacturing plant in Hamriyah, via the Volga-Don river system to Russia. The total project will be approximately 100,000 cu m and include lifts of up to 1,000 tonnes; some of the modules will be as long as 17.5 m.

This is the second jack-up rig that Lamprell has manufactured for Eurasia Drilling Company. In June 2012, Blue Water Shipping was tasked with delivering the EDC Neptune jack-up rig along the same route.

Upon delivery to Eurasia Drilling, the jack-up rig will be reconstructed and deployed on offshore drilling activities in the Caspian Sea.

According to Kevin Isles, executive vice president, Lamprell Energy: "We selected Blue Water Shipping due to their competitive bid, but more importantly due to their many years of experience with large projects in the Caspian area including transport of rigs and other large modules."

The project will commence in summer 2013 and will be completed during spring 2014.
