Charter rates on an upward trajectory

Time charter rates in the multipurpose shipping sector have increased slightly over the last month, according to the latest data from shipbroker Toepfer Transport.

The average daily time charter rate for a 12,500 dwt/F-type heavy lift vessel was USD7,578 in November 2019, said Toepfer. In October 2019, the rate stood at USD7,515.

This represents an increase of USD70 on the November 2018 figures, which averaged out at USD7,508.

Last week, maritime consultancy Drewry said the freight rates for multipurpose and heavy lift operators should strengthen during the remainder of 2019 and into 2020, albeit at weaker levels than previously predicted, as HLPFI reported here.
