Höegh Autoliners’ ro-ro ship Triton Ace called at the port of Newcastle, Australia, on May 8, 2020 – the first time that a vessel of this type had called at the gateway since 2013.
The 200 m-long Triton Ace, delivered large pieces of mining machinery intended for customers in the local area, as well as other ro-ro cargoes.
The shipment – the first of two ro-ro calls in two months – comes as the port continues to diversify its trade and provide competitive supply chain alternatives for Australia’s importers and exporters.
Craig Carmody, ceo of the port said: “All of us need to look at ways we can create more jobs, more investment and a better economy than the one we started this crisis with.”
The port’s acting executive manager business development, Matthew Swan, welcomed the partnership with Höegh Autoliners, alongside other supply chain partners. “It makes sense for equipment heading to our region, whether the Central Coast, Hunter Valley or agricultural customers further afield in regional New South Wales, to come via Newcastle and reduce unnecessary truck movements” he said.
Hoegh Trove is scheduled to call at the port of Newcastle on July 12.
