Odense opts for largest Liebherr MHC

Denmark’s Lindø port of Odense has placed an order for an LHM 800 mobile harbour crane (MHC) from Liebherr.

The custom-built machine has a lifting capacity of 308 tonnes and a lifting height of 96.7 m above the quay. According to Liebherr, the unit is equipped with a high-rise tower extension, making it the largest and strongest MHC it has ever constructed.

The crane will be delivered with a built-in electric motor, which Liebherr said will save the port up to 300 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

Liebherr added that the machine enables Lindø port of Odense to handle the next generation of offshore wind turbines, which are increasing in both size and weight.

“With the purchase of the new mega crane, Lindø port of Odense is cementing its key role as one of the world's largest port players in the green transition with unique production facilities for the future of offshore wind turbines,” explained ceo Carsten Aa.

“We can see that the sizes are getting bigger and bigger. We are meeting that development now with this investment so that we can continue to contribute to facilitating green workplaces within sustainable energy production.”

The new unit can be used in tandem with the port’s existing LHM 550 MHC to handle larger offshore wind energy components, some of which weigh up to 400 tons (362.9 tonnes).
