PCN gathers in Botswana

Members of the Project Cargo Network (PCN) met at the Grand Palm Resort in Botswana during November for the network’s ninth annual summit.

The conference took place at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) on November 17-19. Event highlights included a trip to the Mokolodi Nature Reserve, a performance from Mafitlhakgosi traditional dancers and one-to-one meetings.

“The event, held in the heart of Africa, gave members the opportunity to understand, explore and secure business in the expanding marketplace. Representation from the region included Cameroon, Djibouti, Egypt, Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania,” said PCN.

Ian Treder, logistics director at OMA Group, gave a presentation regarding the challenges and benefits of working in Africa. He has over 30 years of experience in the shipping and logistics industry and is currently involved in business development, port activities and inland transportation in Africa for the OMA Group, predominantly focused on West Africa.

An addition to this year’s line-up was a series of four exclusive video sessions produced by lifting and rigging industry expert Marco J van Daal. These included a case study of the installation of a granite sphere; an overview of the common mistakes made when executing a project; a second case study focusing on a tandem lift where the operators had to rely on instructions given via radio; and an analysis of the current trends and systems in the skidding equipment arena.

The event also included PCN’s 2019 awards ceremony. You can see a round-up of the winners on the PCN website.

The network’s tenth annual summit will take place on November 22-24, 2020 at the InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun in China.
