Antonov Airlines, in collaboration with Kübler Spedition, has transported the EDRS-C satellite on behalf of German manufacturer OHB System.
Antonov transported the satellite and related equipment, which had a combined weight of 70 tonnes, from Munich Airport in Germany to Félix Eboué Airport in French Guiana using one of its AN-124-100 aircraft.
Martin Banns, commercial manager at Antonov Airlines, explained: ”Our engineers worked in partnership with Kübler Spedition and OHB to provide a seamless transition of cargo from the test facilities near Munich, to aircraft, to launch site.”
During the flight, Antonov data-loggers were used to record pressures, temperatures and humidity in the satellite container.
Once launched, the EDRS-C satellite will receive observation data from Low Earth orbiting satellites in the European Space Agency’s (ESA) network and relay the information to ground stations.
