Blue Water Shipping has delivered a 70-tonne dredge from Busan, South Korea to Papua New Guinea.
The oversized dredge and its components required specialised lifting, stowage and lashing plans, while modifications had to be made to the unit to comply with operational requirements.
Blue Water’s global chartering, Oceania, China and Korea teams worked together on the project and detailed the difficulties of securing sufficient space on a multipurpose vessel for the large breakbulk shipment, along with sourcing lashing materials that met stringent cargo requirements and safety standards.
“Close coordination was required between four Blue Water offices across the globe over the past 18 months to ensure alignment,” commented Bratislav Varagic, head of mining logistics, Oceania. “We also communicated clearly with our client to manage each step of the process for this breakbulk and heavy lift project.”
