BNSF Logistics has handled the transport of a boiler, weighing 255,000 lbs (115.7 tonnes), from Houston, Texas to Hawesville, Kentucky.

Measuring 48 ft and 2 inches (14.7 m) in length, the boiler was loaded onto a 15 axle-line modular trailer from Goldhofer for transportation to a barge dock at Greens Point, Texas, where the cargo was rolled onto a barge.

The barge then sailed to Hawesville via the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. Upon arrival at a public barge dock in Hawesville the boiler was rolled off and transported to the destination.

Once on site, the unit was offloaded using four cranes and set on its foundation using a gantry system.

According to the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC), of which BNSF Logistics is a member, the multimodal project was completed in 40 days.
