Between May 2024 and February 2025, Egyptian Global Logistics (EGL) coordinated the delivery of nine transformers as well as general accessories for the East Matrouh Substation project – a core part of Egypt’s national grid expansion.
The substation powers industrial zones and newly developed residential areas along the country’s north coast. Timely delivery of the transformers was essential to maintaining the project schedule and advancing Egypt’s Vision 2030 energy objectives, said EGL.
Three geared vessels called at Alexandria Port to deliver the units, with EGL responsible for port agency and stevedoring services. The company’s scope of work also included pre-operation route and site surveys; direct under-hook receiving of the transformers; the inland transport using modular trailers as well as the acquisition of the necessary permits; along with jacking and skidding for final placement.
For the inland transport operations, 66 axle lines of hydraulic modular trailers were deployed. Once at the site, EGL had to contend with complex site access, which required customised offloading setups.
Enerpac jacking and skidding equipment was then used for the installation of the transformers, during which equipment needed to be moved over 18 m to align with the foundation centres. Four of the transformers had to be rotated at a 2.5 m elevation during the process.
Earlier this year, HLPFI reported that EGL had completed the transport and installation of transformers from the port of Safaga to the Aswan High Dam, both in Egypt.
