Switzerland-headquartered freight forwarder Asstra-Associated Traffic has moved oversized and heavy cargo from Germany to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s capital.

The shipment consisted of two batches of coils, with the total weight surpassing 330 tonnes. During the first stage of the project, the coils were mvoed over the road before being transhipped to railcars – with AsstrA having prepared a loading and securing scheme for railway shipments. This allowed the freight forwarder to calculate the optimal weight distribution on the railway tracks.

Following final approval, the cargo was placed on open railcars. The first batch of coils was loaded onto railway platforms, with the second onto open wagons. AsstrA provided the customer with daily tracking reports, keeping them updated on the cargo along the whole route to Mongolia.

“As often happens in the logistics world we faced some challenges here: upon the cargo’s arrival at the border, we had to urgently prepare additional documents according to the authority’s request,” explained Olga Davidovich, forwarding specialist at AsstrA. “Thanks to the prompt actions of the AsstrA team and coordination with the customer, all vehicles have been cleared without delays, and the shipments continued as planned.”

HLPFI reported in August that AsstrA had shipped power generation equipment from Bangladesh to the USA.
