Hansa Meyer Brazil has started transporting the first of 14 transformers from Brazil to Saudi Arabia, each weighing around 340 tonnes.
Given the weight of the transformers, Hansa Meyer Brazil deployed one of the largest girder bridge trailer combinations ever used in the country – 22 axle lines on each end, totalling roughly 136 m in length and over 800 tonnes of gross weight.
Manufactured by Hitachi Energy in Guarulhos, the transformers were transported along the highway which connects São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro using the girder bridge trailer combinations. An entire lane was taken up on the highway for the 390 km journey to the port of Itaguaí, situated just before Rio de Janeiro.
Throughout 2025 and 2026, Hansa Meyer Brazil will be transporting another 13 units for the project.
