Scaldis, in cooperation with BOA Offshore, has salvaged the Norwegian warship Helge Ingstad.
On November 8, 2018, Helge Ingstad collided with the tanker Sola TS in the vicinity of Bergen and sank on the inclined slope of a fjord. Scaldis developed an innovative lifting method by combining its two heavy lift vessels, Rambiz and Gulliver, to recover the stricken ship.
Rambiz, which is equipped with two cranes with a total lifting capacity of 3,300 tonnes, along with the 4,000-tonne lifting capacity Gulliver, combined their respective strength to lift the 5,500-tonne Helge Ingstad in one piece.
Missiles and fuel were removed from the warship during the winter months, while divers installed 16 hoisting chains under the wreck in order to lift the ship out of the water.
The warship was then transported while hanging from the crane hooks of the heavy lift vessels to the nearest port, where it was placed on a partially submerged pontoon. The pontoons were then de-ballasted; the hoisting cranes stabilised the ship until all sea-fastenings had been secured for subsequent transport.
