Heavy lift and transport engineering specialist Sarens has loaded out five modules, which weighed between 1,400-4,000 tonnes, for the FPSO P-79 at the Estaleiro EBR (EBR Shipyard) in São José do Norte, Brazil.
Initially requested by client Saipem in mid-March 2024, Sarens had all the necessary equipment ready by the end of July 2024. With a technical and commercial proposal issued and agreed upon by the beginning of April of that year, the first shipment with the equipment aboard – originating from Norway, the UK, and Belgium – set sail on June 24, 2024, with Sarens onsite by the start of August.
For the project, Sarens deployed 136 axle lines of SPMTs from Scheuerle, eight power pack units (PPUs), and 20 load cells. Their manoeuvrability and heavy transport capacity were key factors, given that the modules weighed between 1,400-4,000 tonnes. The SPMTs were at the job site for 45 days.
Sarens battled against a tight project timeline, along with the remote location of the shipyard in Brazil – which was accessible only by boat and ferry – and windy, rainy, and cold weather conditions.
HLPFI reported earlier this week that Sarens supported a helicopter lift at the French National Library, in Paris.
