Multipurpose operator Swire Projects has delivered five sets of wind turbine towers from Ciwandan, Indonesia, to Sundsvall, Sweden.
The 18,800 cu m shipment was delivered aboard the 12,800 dwt vessel Pacific Endeavour. The wind towers are destined for the 105 MW Fasikan wind farm, an onshore wind power project located in Jämtland, Sweden.
As part of the journey, Pacific Endeavour had to pass through the Kiel Canal in Germany, a 98 km-long canal that connects the North Sea to the Baltic Sea. Although regarded as one of the busiest waterways in the world, this route offered an efficient shortcut for Swire Projects, cutting down on both transit times and fuel consumption.
Meticulous planning and coordination was crucial, given the high deck load aboard the ship, and the size and sensitivity of the wind tower components.
HLPFI reported last month that Swire Projects had delivered mining equipment from Dongguan, China, to Kitimat, Canada.
