With the bridge measuring 78 m long and weighing 728 tonnes, Vernazza opted for a Tadano CC 68.1250-1 as the primary lifter, with a 68 m-long boom CC 38.650-1 and a 400-tonne crawler crane with a 35 m boom in support.

The bridge was rigged at four points, and the CC 68.1250-1 was set up with an SSL configuration with a 72 m-long main boom. This allowed for the bridge to be lifted to a height of 15 m at a radius of 20 m before travelling 45 m on double-layered red ironwood crane mats in the direction of the Alpone River. Once in position, the other two crawler cranes grabbed the ends of the bridge with their hooks, enabling the load to be manoeuvred with precision.

Vernazza executive Mauro Milano said: “Even the planning stages were challenging. After all, it was a job that involved three large lattice boom crawler cranes, so our engineers really had to go the extra mile to make sure that all the booms would be perfectly synchronised throughout.”

Earlier this month, HLPFI reported that Autotrasporti Porro had purchased an AC 7.450-1 and AC 4.080-1 from Tadano.
