Goldwind wind turbines have arrived at the port of Geraldton in preparation for onward transport to the Mt Weld hybrid power station, as the Australian mining sector progresses with the integration of renewables sources.
The 6 MW turbines will form a 24 MW wind farm that will become a key component of the approximately 65 MW hybrid power system developed by Zenith Energy for Lynas Rare Earths – combining wind, solar, gas, battery storage and synchronous condensers.
According to Zenith Energy, it supports Lynas’ transition from diesel to a firmed renewable energy supply.
The company is developing a similar facility as part of the Bellevue Gold Project, which will include a 90 MW hybrid power solution. Recently, HLPFI reported that multipurpose operator Swire Projects delivered four GW165/6.0MW Goldwind wind turbines for this project.
According to Zenith Energy, the first of these turbines has now been fully commissioned as is now generating renewable energy on site.
These turbines were also delivered to the port of Geraldton, which recently began work on a new bulk materials handling facility as part of its Port Maximisation Project (PMaxP).
