March 26 - Russian freighter operator Volga-Dnepr Airlines has shipped 30 bison calves from Edmonton, Canada to Yakutia, Russia onboard an IL-76TD-90VD.
The animals will form part of a breeding programme in Yakutia. Bison are a threatened species according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
The calves travelled in special containers and were accompanied by veterinarians and members of the Canadian Elk Island National Park to ensure the health of the animals during the journey.
The IL-76TD-90VD flight was organsied by Russian charter broker Aerologic Line, on behalf of the Ministry of Nature of the Republic of Yakutia.
A further delivery of bison is scheduled for 2015.
