FLAG restores classic Scheuerle lowbed

Switzerland-based E. Flückiger AG (FLAG) acquired a lowbed trailer from Scheuerle in 1964. 56 years later, the unit is still on the road having been full restored.

In 1964, Fritz Flückiger, then head of Rothrist-based FLAG, purchased a T3641L lowbed trailer from Scheuerle. At that time, FLAG specialised in the trading and recycling of scrap iron, along with earthwork operations. The lowbed performed reliably through until 2000, transporting construction vehicles to a range of destinations.

Fritz Flückiger’s son, Heinrich (Heini) Flückiger, who had taken over the management of FLAG, decided that the trailer should not be written off. Instead, it was put into storage, with Heini Flückiger hoping to one day restore the trailer to its former glory.

Heini Flückiger's two daughters knew of their father's wish to have the trailer restored, along with a 1981-built Saurer D330BN 4x4 tractor unit and a Link-Belt crawler excavator produced in 1966.

While Heini Flückiger was away enjoying an extended holiday, the daughters mobilised the FLAG team to completely overhaul the equipment.

The team needed just under two months to restore the trailer, which FLAG said is further evidence of the intact basic structure of the Scheuerle machine.

The three units were presented to Heini Flückiger as a birthday present at the start of this year. He plans to display the renovated equipment at classic commercial vehicles events.
