November 24 - The Georgia Ports Authority's (GPA) terminals in Brunswick and Savannah moved a combined amount of 2.79 million tonnes of cargo in October - a record for the authority.

"Strong growth across all key sectors of our business is an indication that our ports are reaching a larger and more diverse customer base," said GPA executive director Curtis Foltz.

For the fiscal year to date the GPA has moved 10.28 million tonnes, up 7.2 percent year-on-year.

As well as record container volumes, the Georgia terminals also saw an increase in ro-ro shipping. Brunswick's autoport and Savannah's Ocean Terminal moved a combined number of 232,009 ro-ro units this fiscal year - a 3.4 percent year-on-year increase.

Total ro-ro volumes for October totalled 63,218 units, which is a 1.4 percent increase compared with October in 2013.
