January 11 - Almajdouie has moved the world's largest evaporator, and says this was the heaviest load ever moved in the Middle East.

Measuring 124 m long, 34 m wide and 12 m high, it weighed 4,891 tonnes - the equivilant of a football field carrying the weight of 5,000 cars (pictured below).

Almajdouie used 172 axle lines of Self Propelled Modular Trailers (SPMTs), equipped with 688 double width tyres and with a capacity of 6,680 tonnes to move the unit from Ras al Khair jetty to the jobsite.

The USD1.76 billion order for the plant project from Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) in Saudi Arabia was awarded to core contractor Doosan with Almajdouie given responsibility for overall on-shore activities for the evaporator built by Doosan Heavy Industries, Korea.

"This project included months of preparation for planning and engineering, trailer computation based on shipping drawing, site survey, planning and route simulations, " said a spokesman for Almajdouie.

Almajdouie will be moving a total of eight evaporators, the second is scheduled for February.

In 2010, Almajdouie transported six evaporators for the Shuwaihat, S2 IWPP Project, Abu Dhabi UAE, which measured 104.7 m long by 31.4 m wide and measuring 11 m high.
