March 25 - The level of French project cargo, as well as other cargoes, handled at the port of Antwerp is so significant that French president Nicolas Sarkozy has quipped that Antwerp is the largest French port.

Antwerp claims to be the only trimodal port in North West Europe and so offers highly efficient hinterland connections with the Alsace region, say port managers.

To emphasise the importance of Antwerp for the French logistical and industrial world, Antwerp Port Authorityorganised a Port Day in Strasbourg this week. This city is the location of the main inland waterway port in the region, the Port Autonome de Strasbourg, where the majority of the cargo arriving from or destined for Antwerp is handled.
